Main Task: Research and planning, Alternative magazine.

After researching many magazine's it has became apparent to me that there is a gap in the market for a magazine which features old artists. I like the layout and retro like feel to some of the 'NME' magazine's which also feature some old acts which i feel will attract young adults. The simplistic look to the 'NME' magazines keeps them looking fresh and modern yet with a old twist. The colour schemes fit well and creates the feeling of a sophisticated up market product. I will continue to look at old issues of 'NME' and frequent new ones to base my magazine on.

This issue of 'NME' used three colour schemes which consisted of pink, black and white. This keeps the cover looking simple and sleek with out giving it a definite gender reference due to the dark colourings.

Sans Serif font is used to reduce the formality of the magazine, this suggests more frequent readers of a younger age range. A subheading is used in the middle of the cover to bring attention to the article. This also uses anchorage as the image is of the writing its self 'Rihanna' The image denotes a female with a short stylish hairdo, wearing blue eyeshadow. She is wearing a black top with high shoulders, this connotes power as it is playing on the idea of a mans figure which is usually perceived of dominance. She is also wearing blue bottoms and a black ring which denotes 

rebellion as the ring is thick and bulky unlike a elegant dainty ring. This represents the magazine as strong and dominant.

This is the type of style i really like within the 'NME' magazines. The cover is playing on the idea of the retro feel with its headline '60 years of NME' the '60' is in a typical retro type of font. The magazine is playing with soft yellows and whites. I feel this is great use of colour as it isn't harsh on the eyes but creates a happy feel to the magazine. 

One puff is used in a clean cut circular shape. This makes the magazine look very sophisticated and up market. The clean lines and sharp fonts also give the feel of a un cluttered layout. Text is used in minimal effect to allow the image to succeed its full potential.

The cover has a running head which grabs the readers attention which has no background, using only white and yellow coloured fonts which contrasts with the dark grey background.
